Headlights On (Dawn Raid Lights). Steve Tofa Headlights on, headlights on, day and night Headlights on, headlights on, dawn raid lights I'm about to go to the land of milk and honey First time on a plane, my afro’s gonna make that money Full Time work guaranteed to outweigh the cons of being alone Gonna cream that cheddar make them proud and send some money home Gotta watch my uncle Faga Im told that he can be so tricky Keep up to date with my board, it’s expensive living in Auckland city That’s ok coz I know they've advertised so many vacancies And I’m just another polynesian with a work visa in the 70’s Headlights on, headlights on, day and night Headlights on, headlights on, dawn raid lights Unpacked my bags and finally made it to my destination But it appears I've been misinformed about the current situation Immigrants like me are seen as temporary only here for labour And now demand has dropped for New Zealand exports so it’s see you later If your skin was “chocolate rain”, chances are you’d be stopped, pulled aside and questioned If your visa was up, you’re an overstayer and you were taught a lesson I was told because of me and my kind unemployment and crime was rife Nevermind my contribution or my chance for a better life Headlights on, headlights on, day and night Headlights on, headlights on, dawn raid lights Headlights on, headlights on, day and night Headlights on, headlights on, dawn raid lights

SAY IT 03:41
Say It by Steve Tofa You’ve got me seeking validation for feelings I’m feeling better let me know If I’ve said too much Instead of secretly hoping an answer will magically appear in time Let’s make it happen baby What if I said that I don't wanna do this girl That I don’t wanna do this anymore? What if I said, baby, that I’m going home That I’m going home, yeah, yeah, yeah? We could continue just a sitting around here pretending that there is no need For us to talk about it Or I could ask you if you wanted a drink and proceed to get it off the ice Im talking prospects baby What if I said, that I don't wanna do this girl That I don’t wanna do this anymore? What if I said, that I’m going home I’m going home, yeah, yeah, yeah? I just want you to say it I want you to be clear (I can see clearly now) I just want you to say it (want you to say it, want you to say it, say it) I want you to be clear You’ve got me seeking validation for feelings I’m feeling better let me know If I’ve said too much Instead of secretly hoping an answer will magically appear in time Let’s make it happen baby I just want you to say it I want you to be clear I just want you to say it I want you to be clear (I can see clearly now) I just want you to say it (want you to say it, want you to say it, say it) I want you to be clear (I guess I can make it now) I just want you to say it (Yeah, yeah!) I want you to be clear

The Smiling Assassin by Steve Tofa Todays the day, I gotta make that decision A choice for the future must be made There were so many lessons It was so easy to be swayed It is what it is And it’s what I’ll do So don't come around here With an attitude Im releasing the burdens Of these outdated ways from my kids No more hiding in the corner While I know the trouble that I'm in Goodbye! To the smiling assassin Oh yeah To the smiling assassin Oh yeah Today Im at peace, stepping out of the shadow Letting go of all that rage It always felt so unnatural Even at such a young age It is what it is And its what Ive done You can come around here Go tell everyone Im releasing the burdens Of these outdated ways from my kids No more hiding in the corner While I know the trouble that I'm in Goodbye! To the smiling assassin Oh yeah To the smiling assassin Oh yeah To the smiling assassin Oh yeah

PAIN BABY 03:22
Pain Baby Music and Lyrics by Steve Tofa There she goes, it feels like summer just came and went Gutless wonder that great sunshine Every time that something good comes along She plays dumb She used to bring the sunshine Now she only brings the rain And she used to be so fine Baby only brings me pain Release them dogs and let them bury their bones No one likes to wet their blankets Call it a day there ain't no need to explain Get out on the road and put your thumb out She used to bring the sunshine Now she only brings the rain And she used to be so fine Baby only brings me pain There she goes, it feels like summer just came and went Gutless wonder that great sunshine Every time that something good comes along She plays dumb She used to bring the sunshine Now she only brings the rain And she used to be so fine Baby only brings me pain She used to bring the sunshine Now she only brings the rain And she used to be so fine Baby only brings me pain

Dreaming in my Bubble Music and Lyrics by Steve Tofa Now that my children have grown and moved out I raised them with love and I feel I did everything I could The call to come home has grown stronger O Samoa o lo’u atu nu’u pele (Samoa my beloved homeland) Just to be told stay in my bubble Just to be told to hold tight One day when the borders open One day when the skies are clear I will return to my island I'll finally make my ascension To the skies Just to be told to stay in my bubble Just to be told hold tight Just to be told to stay in my bubble I'm flying now (Dreaming in my bubble) I can see my home from here I'm flying now (Dreaming in my bubble) I can see my home from here I’m flying now (Sleeping in my bubble) Everyone I know is here

UNDERGROUND 04:27
Underground Lyrics and Music by Steve Tofa I catch my buses in the morning My breakfast lays out on a chair I put my card in for the hours I do when no one else is there And I’m waiting for my lunch time to come around So I, can, rest, in PEACE No one will ever notice when I’m underground So all my life I will be working I’m trying not to blame myself The machine inside there’s always staring As I put my life back on the shelf And I’m waiting for my home time, to come around So I, can, rest, in PEACE No one will ever notice when I’m underground *Break* Just the usual T.V dinner A smaller ration of warm milk I’m celebrating my own birthday I spill red wine upon my silk And I’m waiting for my life time, to come around So I, can, rest, in PEACE No one will ever notice when I’m underground

Leni Hearts Teina Words and music by Steve Tofa Teina my lady No point in using another girls name Or keep ‘em guessing about who this song is for No reasons for vague words Or messages conveyed subliminally You probably know what I’m about to say, anyway Do I miss you? Thats why Im coming home Do I love you? You know that Do I miss you? That's what I’m coming home Do I love you? And so and so and all that Hmmm A smile like the sun I feel the laughter of our children in the rain Your endless patience I am grateful to have known I’m such a long way from all that But the distance won't phase me I see a woman who’ll be having my baby, my baby Do I miss you? Thats why Im coming home Do I love you? You know that Do I miss you? That's what I’m coming home Do I love you? And so and so and all that Instrumental “Oohhh” “La la la” Do I miss you? Thats why Im coming home Do I love you? You know that Do I miss you? That's what I’m coming home Do I love you? And so and so and all that (HMMMM) Do I miss you? Thats why Im coming home Do I love you? You know that Do I miss you? That's what I’m coming home Do I love you? And so and so and all that

about

Self produced, Koko Stax was another opportunity for Steve to put his recently acquired Music degree, from the Waikato Institute of Technology to work.
A concatenation of stories, anecdotes and notes to self - based on a character he created, in the first year of his degree called 'Leni Mafu' a freight, logistics and warehousing 'Legend'.
From Leni's first arrival into Aotearoa for work in the early 70's, to his family life, love life and a yearning to return to his island home in his later years, Steve attempts to capture the essence of these tales through music, using many elements of the different genres around that time period.

"Musically this is full of soul and heart, with a beautifully warm bass often at the heart of what is taking place, and he brings in electric guitar at times, while at others it is acoustic. We get glimpses of reggae, we get funk, real Seventies soul, Motown, all wrapped up as a complete package with those wonderful vocal harmonies..."
